Eleven-year-old Isabella Rose Taylor turned heads at this year’s Austin Fashion Week. The young fashion designer, who debuted her Fall collection on the first night of the Driskill Runway & Marketplace, even took to the runway herself, modeling her own pieces specifically designed to fulfill the needs of the stylish ‘tween.
Isabella, who has been an artist since the age of three, has designed a collection that illustrates the boundless opportunities of mixed media. Pieces from her mini resort collection were directly inspired her recent portraiture series, “Color Stories.” Her Fall collection feels the influence of her figurative charcoal drawings.
“I was so grateful to have this amazing opportunity to show my designs that I had been working on the past few years,” says Isabella. “Being a newbie, it was a thrilling and hectic experience. Back stage was action packed. I was so appreciative of how organized everything was given that I did not know what to expect. All of the girls had so much fun and I had no idea I could even change clothes that fast!”

“One of my favorite looks was the color blocked shifts and knotted bow dresses with the headscarf. The headscarf was designed from one of my actual paintings. My colors were inspired by a portraiture series that I had recently completed. This series also inspired my colorful blouson tunic. I was trying to exude personality through color choice. In my fall collection, I was duly inspired by figurative charcoal work that I had completed. I used blousey tops for flow and then contained them in harder lines like my cropped motorcycle jacket. I also used lace for textural interest and softness to contrast the dimensional structures of tops and pleather shift.”
